The Most Cute Moment in Life, Pt. i (Korean: 화양연화 pt.1 ; Hanja: 花樣年華 pt.1 ; RR: Hwayangyeonhwa pt.1 ) is the third extended play by South Korean male child band BTS. The album was released on April 29, 2015 by Large Hit Entertainment.[3] It is available in two versions and contains nine tracks, with "I Demand U" as the lead unmarried and "Dope (쩔어)" as a promoted follow-up single.

Background and release [edit]

Shifting their audio and image from solely ambitious, masculine hip hop to more than diverse styles,[4] BTS wanted to express the dazzler and anxiousness of "youth" and settled on the title of "花樣年華" (Korean: 화양연화; RR: Hwayangyeonhwa), loosely interpreted to define "youth" as "the about beautiful moment in life."[5] On April 6, 2015, BTS announced their comeback engagement for Apr 29, and revealed that all members participated in writing songs for the album.[half-dozen] On Apr 17, an animated comeback trailer[7] was uploaded on Large Hit Amusement'due south official YouTube aqueduct, which featured the album's intro track performed past Suga.[viii] On Apr xix, Big Hit Entertainment appear the title of the anthology, and the first gear up of member concept photos[9] was posted on their official Twitter account. The anthology would also include a 120-page photobook and a random photo carte.[11] Large Hit Entertainment released the start music video teaser for the album'southward lead single "I Need U" on Apr 23.[12] On April 26, the album'due south track listing was revealed, and an anthology preview was uploaded on Large Hit Amusement's YouTube aqueduct.[xiii] Two of the album's tracks, "Boyz with Fun" and "Antipodal High," had previously been previewed at the 2015 BTS Live Trilogy Episode I: BTS Begins concert held in Seoul on March 29.[14]

On June 14, BTS posted concept photos[15] [16] for the follow-up promotion track "Dope (쩔어)" through their official Facebook page, captioned with the opening line of the vocal: "Welcome, kickoff fourth dimension with BTS?"

Music videos [edit]

The music video for "I Need U" was released on April 30, 2015.[17] The video was revealed to have been edited to lower the nineteen+ rating down to a 15+ rating, as information technology carefully portrays each ring members' stories representing troubled youth.[18] On May ten, the uncut, original 19+ version of the music video was released, which includes nearly two minutes of extended scenes and contains darker themes and more graphic imagery than the previous video.[19] Both versions of the "I Demand U" music videos were produced and directed past Lumpens.[twenty]

On June 24, Big Hit Entertainment released the music video for "Dope (쩔어)" on YouTube.[21] It features each of the members dressed upwards to represent various occupations, such as a police officer or office worker, while dancing fast-paced choreography.[22] The dance was choreographed by Keone Madrid, and the music video was produced and directed by GDW.[23]

Promotions [edit]

On April 29, 2015, prior to the release of the "I Need U" music video at midnight, BTS broadcast a live improvement special [24] chosen "I Demand U, BTS ON AIR" through Naver Starcast.[25] On April 30, BTS held their showtime improvement stage performance on Mnet's Yard Countdown.[26] Two tracks from the anthology, "Boyz with Fun" and "Antipodal High", were accounted unfit for broadcast past KBS due to lyrics containing swears and brand names, such as Antipodal, Chanel, and Alexander McQueen.[27] The latter runway was also deemed unfit for broadcast by MBC.[28] Nevertheless, the group went on to successfully promote beyond multiple channels and various programs, including on KBS, MBC, SBS, and Arirang Television.[29] BTS wrapped upwardly promotions for "I Need U" with the concluding performance held on the May 31 broadcast of SBS Inkigayo.

On June 13, BTS announced their plans to agree follow-upwards promotions on music show programs with the track "Dope (쩔어)",[30] and subsequently made their improvement on the June 25 broadcast of M Inaugural.[31] Promotions for "Dope" concluded on July five with their final performance on Inkigayo.

Commercial performance [edit]

Immediately later the release of the album, "I Demand U" became the acme trending search term on Korean portal sites and ranked number one on various real-time music charts, including Soribada, Genie, and Daum Music. The song also managed to crack the top x on Melon, Bugs, and Naver Music's real-time music charts.[36] The music video for "I Demand U" reached 1 million views in 16 hours, while the "Dope (쩔어)" music video garnered one million views in less than 15 hours[37]—the fastest record for any BTS music video at the time. "Dope" gained considerable attention internationally as information technology became the bailiwick of numerous reaction videos on YouTube, the nearly noteworthy existence from the Fine Brothers[38] channel.[39] "Dope" went on to become the group's first music video to surpass 100 million views on YouTube, making BTS the first K-pop group exterior the "big three" Korean entertainment agencies (SM, YG, and JYP) to attain this feat.[40]

In Nihon, the album debuted at number 24 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart[47] and number 45 on the Oricon Monthly Album Chart.[48] The Well-nigh Cute Moment in Life, Part i was the 6th all-time-selling album in Republic of korea in 2015 with sales over 200,000 copies.[49]

BTS charted a total of 6 songs on the Billboard World Digital Songs Nautical chart, with "I Demand U" ranked highest at number iv, followed by "Dope" (number 11), "Hold Me Tight" (number 12), "Boyz with Fun" (number 13), "Converse High" (number 15), and "Outro: Love is Not Over" (number 25).[l] On July 11, after having completed follow-up promotions, "Dope" peaked at number 3 on the World Digital Songs chart.[51] The anthology also debuted at number two on the Billboard World Albums Chart, peaked at number half-dozen on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Chart, and entered the Billboard Independent Albums Nautical chart for the first time at number 20, all of which were the highest for any BTS anthology at the fourth dimension.[50] The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Function 1 was named by Fuse equally i of the "27 All-time Albums of 2015 So Far", coming in at 24,[52] with BTS being the only Korean artist to exist recognized on the listing.
